Jake's marked entry into the Advance Wars series is best noted for his unique speech mannerisms, at least in western countries. Originally created as a field communications officer, the rugged appearance and inclusion of large headphones with Jake's character artwork has seemingly spurred English localization to give him a bit of a "punk" character, best reflected in his dialogue by wide use of slang. Some fans detest this unorthodox personality while others find it a refreshing change from the norm.

Jake appears in Advance Wars: Dual Strike as one of many situational firepower COs. Unlike preceding COs, Jake possesses more subtle abilities, foregoing a weakness at the expense of a more pronounced strength. His popular image, mostly forged on his English dialogue, and lack of said strength make him one of the lesser used COs.
